The Historic Dubsdread Ballroom Real Wedding – Kate Garnes and Casey Casteel

We thank recent couple Kate Garnes and Casey Casteel for graciously sharing their experience to benefit others.

ONE YEAR OUT:

How/where did you get engaged? 
I was traveling for work and was running on about four hours of sleep from the past 24 hours when Casey picked me up at the airport at midnight. When we got home, I got my suitcase out and started walking up the sidewalk to the front door when I heard, “Hey Kate” and I turned around he was down on one knee. He said, “I had a whole thing planned out with our friends and a photographer in Winter Garden, but I picked up the ring today, and I absolutely can’t wait any longer to be engaged to you. I love you. Will you please?” I think I said yes, hahaha! Right at that time, my neighbor had come outside because she thought she heard something and wanted to make sure that everything was okay and I was able to say, “Meg! I think I’m engaged!” It was wonderful, and SO perfect for the two of us.  

What are you most excited about for your wedding day?
There are a few things I’m most excited about! I am wearing my grandma’s 1944 wedding dress, and I’m excited to share that special moment with my fiancé and my family! We are also very excited to have a live band at the reception! Music is such a huge part of our lives for the both of us, so that will be fun to share!

What aspect are you excited to plan the most? (Ceremony, food & beverages, photographer, DJ)
THE FOOD!!!!! We love good food, and we have heard nothing but amazing things about Dubsdread Catering’s food. 

A FEW MONTHS OUT / PLANNING PROCESS:

How do you feel the planning is going?
Wedding planning is going pretty well! We had our tasting yesterday at Dubsdred and it was WONDERFUL! I’d like to give a shout out to Ryan and Tony for being the kindest waiter and bartender.  

What have you found to be more difficult than you expected?
There are so many little things that you don’t even think about like signage and even making sure we have a bucket for our cold sparklers to go in after they are done. That’s probably the hardest thing is making sure you are getting all of the small things done! 

What has been more fun about the process than you expected?
The tasting!!! Did I mention we love food! And hearing how excited people are when they find out they are invited to the wedding!

WEDDING DAY:

What was the best, most memorable part of your big day?
Honestly the very best part of the day was looking out at the ceremony and seeing every person that we love and adore so much. Our ceremony was super lighthearted and joyful, and at one point both Casey and I just wanted to say LOOK AT ALL THESE PEOPLE WE LOVE! It was the very best day.

If you could change one or two things about your event, what would they be? 
To be honest, I don’t think we would change anything. Everything ran so smoothly. We felt so loved and so supported not only by our loved ones, but by everyone at Dubsdread Catering! The event team was truly amazing!

Is there any advice you would give other couples planning their event that you wish some-one had told you?
HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER. Kristy, our personal coordinator, and Peighton, our Dubsdread Catering coordinator, made our life and choices so easy. They knew what to look for and ask about when we just had no idea. They were able to give us the most amazing advice and looked out for us every step of the way. I would also say hire a live band for the reception. EVERYONE was up and dancing. One of the best decisions we made for sure!
