ONE YEAR OUT:

How/where did you get engaged?
We got engaged in Pittsburgh, PA. Both of our families are from Pittsburgh so that is by far our favorite places to visit. We went up for a long weekend to go to both a Penguins and Steelers game and little did I know at the time, an engagement as well! We spent the morning walking in the Strip District and then rode the incline up to the top of Mt. Washington. While we were up on Mt. Washington, we were looking down on Point State Park and Phil mentioned that we had never been there, and he wanted to go and see it. So off we went, to Point State Park. It was freezing outside, and I wasn’t the happiest person to be out in the cold, but everything changed when we were standing along the river, and I turned around to see Phil on one knee. It was the most amazing moment, and I knew without a doubt that I wanted to spend forever with him!

What are you most excited about for your wedding day?

We are looking forward to officially become Mr. and Mrs.! I think the best part of our day will be having the chance to celebrate, and spend time with, our family and friends. We certainly wouldn’t be the people we are today without the support of so many other people.

What aspect are you excited to plan the most? (Ceremony, food & beverages, photographer, DJ)
Most people go to a wedding and remember a few things... how was the food and how was the music? We are definitely looking forward to deciding on the food choices for our wedding. It’s going to be a tough decision, but I think it will be a fun experience! We are so excited to have our photographer, DJ, and The Azalea Lodge at Mead Botanical Garden booked already!

A FEW MONTHS OUT / PLANNING PROCESS

How do you feel the planning is going?
Planning has been a slow process, but we’ve just been taking things one step at a time. It seems like we go in waves of doing a bunch of things and then we take a little break. We both seem to have a pretty relaxed attitude about everything and have agreed on most everything so far, so that is extremely helpful! Things are coming along though!

What have you found to be more difficult than you expected?
In terms of difficulty, we haven’t really run into many problems until right about now thinking about this COVID-19 stuff starting to spike again. We thought when we started this process we would be in the clear and have felt so good about our date up until a couple weeks ago. We continue to pray that everyone stays healthy, and we see light again at the end of the tunnel, but right now that seems to be our biggest problem we’re facing!

What has been more fun about the process than you expected?
from Pittsburgh, we have found ourselves including more of Pittsburgh in than I had originally expected. It seems as if there are so many unique and fun ways to do things at weddings now and we seem to be gravitating more towards the “out of the box” ideas rather than the traditional ones. It’s been so fun to find a guestbook that fits our style and wedding favors that are representative of us!

WEDDING DAY

What was the best, most memorable part of your big day?
The best part of our day had to be spending time with all of our friends and family. We shared so many laughs and happy tears and were just so incredibly thankful for the time we spent together. It was so amazing to look around and see people smiling, talking, and having a good time. Everything seemed to go so smoothly, and it was absolutely perfect!

If you could change one or two things about your event, what would they be?
If we had to change anything, it would probably have been the amount of time. It seriously flew by so fast, and I think another hour would have really been nice. Other than that, I think our day was wonderful and I can’t think of much else that I would want to be different.

Is there any advice you would give other couples planning their event that you wish someone had told you?
To anyone planning a wedding or event, the only thing we can suggest is to stay relaxed. We were never uptight or worried about anything and it really helped us to enjoy every step of the process. Have fun with it! It’s your day! Also, take some time during your day to soak it in because it sure does go by fast!
