Any Advice for Other Couples? – Real Weddings Questions Answered

At Dubsdread Catering we love being dedicated members of the team that makes your big day your best day. While we are masters at the planning and executing the behind-the-scenes work, we know our clients have their own unique perspective on their event. We have culled all the answers from our Real Weddings couples here in hopes it will benefit others in their planning journey.

Is there any advice you would give other couples planning their event that you wish someone had told you?

“Soak up every minute of the BIG day, the small details are not a focus for guests!”

– Lisa Persaud and Phillip Tamburello

“Some situations may seem like a big deal at the time, but at the end of the day...it’s just about the two of you getting married. Don’t sweat the small stuff, just enjoy your moment and the most important thing: the ceremony!”

– Erin Pampe and Nicholai Bjoring

“There is beauty in simplicity. I think the wedding industry can be very inflated, but at Dubsdread the venue is already naturally so beautiful that small touches can go a long way and save the budget! And get the late-night snack if you can! Your guests will LOVE it!”

– Alexa Ruiz and Mark Lowrey

“Ian: Definitely plan ahead, it was a lot of work, and I couldn’t imagine doing that amount of work at the last minute.

Megan: don’t let yourself get too stressed, especially over attendance and RSVPs. The people who are meant to be there will be there and it will be awesome. Oh yeah and get to the venue earlier than you think you should. Enjoy your special day!”

– Megan Glaser and Ian Smith

“Don’t worry so much about the details and just have fun planning your wedding day! The Dubsdread team is incredible, and they are going to take such great care of the both of you!”

– Michon McKay and Phillip Friedman

“Yefim’s advice would be to not party too hard the night before the wedding. He stuggled a bit the morning of the wedding getting himself collected and energized. I partied 2 nights before the wedding, so I was well rested for the day of the wedding.”

– Mindy Ley and Yefim Romanov

“Some advice that we’d like to share with others is just to take a moment. We mean to completely stop, and take it all in. Enjoy looking at everyone and everything. Watch everyone’s faces light up as you two enter the room. Take a mental image of everyone and everything and enjoy the moment. Also, remember things may not go as planned during that day, but you have to shrug them off and remember the real reason you’re there. Don’t waste your time worrying about what isn’t going right. Just smile through it all and remember you are marrying the person you plan on sharing forever with, it’s not about the D.J., the guests, the scenery, the outfits, etc. It is strictly about you and the love of your life taking a huge step towards your forever.”

– Taylor Emanuel and Chance Caspary

“The most important advice I can give any couple planning their wedding is not to worry about offending anyone. I tiptoed around everyone’s feelings, and I still had people upset or offended by certain things. It’s your day and no one else’s. Be clear and firm about what you want and don’t change anything for anyone. It’s your day!”

– Delilah Cabreja and Esteban Vazquez

“Hire a videographer! The day will go by so fast and there will be a lot you won't see. The videographer will be able to capture all of that for you. As the bride, I didn't get to see anyone walking down the aisle, but the videographer was able to capture all of that for me. The videographer was able to capture the wedding from a different perspective than the photographer and was worth every penny! Other than that, my advice is to relax and try to soak up as much of the day as possible.”

– Becky Harris and Shayne Fairley

“The advice we’d give is don’t stress the small stuff. It’s easier said than done, but at the end of the day, you are there to marry the love of your life and that’s what matters the most! We had the best wedding at The Highland Manor. Truly couldn’t have done it without Bonny. I will suggest Dubsdread to everyone!”

– Alex Mulligan and Alberto Chevalier

“It goes by SO FAST so make sure you live in every single moment. Life happens and people will cancel last minute. People will not show up. Things will happen but do your research and trust in your vendors. This is YOUR special day. Not anyone else’s. So, don’t let anything or anyone else ruin your day or stress you out. When you see your significant other for the first time, all the worries just fade away.”

– Jennifer Mohr and Nate Mohr

“As long as you focus on what's important, there's no reason to be stressed on your wedding day. It will all work out.”

– Stephanie Hall and Scott McIntee

“Enjoy every single moment. Even if something seems like a small task, it is meaningful for your special day. You only get married once so remember to cherish everything.”

– Nerissa Vasconcells and Keith Bixler

“To anyone planning a wedding or event, the only thing we can suggest is to stay relaxed. We were never uptight or worried about anything and it really helped us to enjoy every step of the process. Have fun with it! It’s your day! Also, take some time during your day to soak it in because it sure does go by fast!”

– Alyson Knaresboro and Phil Enright

“I was pretty fortunate to have my sister as my sidekick to help guide the way. One piece of advice would be don’t worry about the price point get what you want because then all of your dreams will come true. Also, I would say don’t worry too much about the centerpieces I don’t even remember looking at mine. I would focus mainly on the lighting of the reception and ceremony before worrying about anything else because that is what will truly set the mood of your wedding.”

– Samantha Spring and Brock Stocksett

“The only advice I would give any couple is not to stress anything out because the day is about the two people joining together a family and sharing their love with their close friends and family.”

– Jacqueline Carillo and Tarek Saade

“Any advice I would give is just to relax and have fun with the planning process. The team at The Highland Manor made my day so seamless that I had nothing to worry about on our wedding day!”

– Megan Powers and Nick Howard

“I was constantly told by friends this was our day and I knew that, but I cared so much about others’ opinions. In the end even if they have one the day of, they will have the most amazing food great drinks and be so happy. It took me to the last month of planning to really be on the mindset that this is our day and that’s when things felt easier. This is a day you will never forget and is so special, so make it special to you and your significant other.”

– Shannon Wiessner and Christopher Kelly

“I think the biggest thing I wish someone would have told us is that while there is certainly family and tradition and memories wrapped up in a wedding, it is ultimately a celebration of hope for the future. So, forget the family squabbles and focus on yourselves and what makes you happy and satisfied, because, well, you're creating your own family on your wedding day that will carry you into the future. In that sense, things the mother of the bride said, and the stupid stunts family pulled leading up to it... Well, it's okay to put your foot down and tell them to bother off. My husband reminded me of that in the days before my family arrived, and when my mother started to complain about my tattoo showing in photos or how short I had cut my hair, I turned to her and told her to stop. This was our day, and we were happy and that is the most important thing.”

– Chelsea Yarnell and Drew Fahrenback

“Have a specific person putting away sweets or other things for you to take with you.”

– Jade Geftman and Jeremy Lorigan

“Make decisions on details as early as possible so you can relax the week of and fully enjoy the wedding.”

– Gina Tims and Bobby Petruzzeli

“I extended the makeup artist for touchups up through the ceremony, which was so helpful. I wish I had extended her time for another hour for the first dances too. Also, the whole thing goes by WAY too fast so be sure to take time together to have special moments you'll remember and breathe it all in. "

– Delia Blaise Figura and Phillip Edwards

“Your day is all about you and your partner getting married, it's the start of the rest of your lives, so don't let any minor inconvenience get in the way of you remembering it. The more you stress you about tiny details, the harder it gets to relish the moment and focus on what matters most. Also, you are not too old for Tik Tok, there is so much good advice on the app that you wouldn't find anywhere else. I feel like I had seen so many great ideas on the app after it was too late.”

– Kelsey Hundley and Parker Watts

“With the brunch timeline, it is a bit shorter than normal, but it was super nice in many other ways! I loved being done at 3 p.m. You will need to be prepared to do things on a shorter timeline. Prioritize what is most important to you and make sure that doesn’t get scratched if the timeline changes throughout the day.”

– Tatyana Casamiquela and Daniel Aponte

“I honestly don’t think there’s anything I wish I had been told because I think I got every possible piece of advice from everyone! But I do want to say do not lose sleep over the itty-bitty details. When the day is done, you’ll be married to the love of your life, and that’s truly all that matters. Your guests won’t even notice or remember that you didn’t have a wedding hashtag sign created.”

– Nicole Brooks and Jeffrey Clyne

“Your vendors can make a big difference when your day comes. Really take the time and do the research. It will definitely be worth it in the end. We loved ours!”

– Ashley Eiger and Trevor Sweet

“Do what makes you happy and excited as a couple. If that trendy dress or certain food offering makes you excited, go for it! When it's all over, you're going to remember what made you both happy and not what other people said. A wedding is meant to reflect you as a couple, so don't worry about what others may think!”

– Alexandra (Lexie) Sweat and James Turner

“The guest count will not matter but the people do. Our original estimated count was 80 out of the 120 people we invited. Our final count 14 days before our wedding day was 50 people. We ended up with about 32 people attending. At first, I was frustrated but quickly realized the people that did show up were the reason the day was so enjoyable. The dance floor always had people on it, and we were able to create memories with each person that was there.”

– Katherine Read and Wesley Read

“Do lots of research even for minor things. The best advice is to have lots of fun on your special day because everything happens so fast. Sit back relax, The Highland Manor has your back.”

– Erika Echevarria and Edwin Diaz

“Take your time and be patient! Everything will fall into place.”

– Elizabeth Gore and Jeff Ruppenthal

“Don't sweat the small stuff! During the planning process, we were so focused on little details, which, although little details are also important, it distracted us sometimes from looking at the bigger picture!”

– Morgan Randazzo and Christopher Shaw
