What Would You Change? – Real Weddings Questions Answered

At Dubsdread Catering we love being dedicated members of the team that makes your big day your best day. While we are masters at the planning and executing the behind-the-scenes work, we know our clients have their own unique perspective on their event. We have culled all the recent answers from our Real Weddings couples here in hopes it will benefit others in their planning journey.

If you could change one or two things about your event, what would they be?

“Our day went almost perfectly. A few little things did not go 100% according to plan, but that’s bound to happen no matter how much planning you do, and every couple should mentally prepare for that! If I could go back, I would have liked to be at the venue/bridal suite earlier. We got there at 1:30 p.m. for a 5 p.m. ceremony. We had our first look at 3 p.m., and even that did not feel like much time at all. From the moment the girls and I got to the venue, it was go, go, go. It would have been nice to be able to hang out, chat, have a glass of champagne, before everything began. I think part of the reason we felt short of time was due to our large families and wedding party size which meant photos took a lot more time.”

– Ashlyn Witzke and Matt Sullivan

“I should have asked someone to record the cocktail hour musicians that we hired, even if it was on a cell phone. Our photographer was wonderful at keeping a tight timeline while making sure we had lots of lovely pictures but it's simply just impossible to be in so many places at once when you are the bride and groom.”

– Taylor Welsh and Brian King

“I mean, we loved everything! I wish we could have changed the fact that we got married in the middle of a global pandemic, meaning many of the people we loved were unable to make the celebration. But we are so glad that we decided to still get married and zoom in our loved ones from afar.”

– Alexa Ruiz and Mark Lowrey

“Nothing! Everything was perfect. The staff and our coordinator, David, did an amazing job!”

– Nista Gracien and Ross Bohlken

“Maybe we could have added a photo booth, otherwise we were really happy with our wedding, there wasn’t anything I would change.”

– Courtney Wagner and Richard Trinh

“I truly cannot think of anything I would have changed. Everything was just as imagined and planned.”

– Arianna Cueva and Patrick Salmon

“We would've assigned two of our friends to be in charge of taking more candid photos. Everybody was having such a great time that we completely forgot to take photos of ourselves on our own phones or friends’ phones so we can look at them the next day. Or maybe we should have made a shoutout to our guests to take more photos and send them to our phones!”

– Chrystyna Suarez and Rafael Arvelo

“We wish we would have gone with the plated option versus the buffet option. The buffet took a bit longer and cut into the open dance time, and if you couldn’t tell from my previous comments, music and dancing are a big thing for us!”

 – Mandy Morgan and Bradly Freed

“Sadly, our cake wasn’t what we were expecting. I am gluten intolerant and the cake we test tasted isn’t what our cake ended up tasting like. Very disappointed.”

– Nicole Grossholz and Coltee Sharp

“If I could change two things it would have been to have booked the reception for longer and then to have been on site earlier the day of the wedding.”

– Lyndsey Boos and Cody Grant

“We wouldn’t change a thing. We really felt like it was the perfect day, and that was mostly thanks to the incredible staff at Dubsdread Catering. It could not have gone any better.”

– Samantha Kestenbaum and Rory Graham

“If I could change something about the event, I might have the reception go one hour longer. We loved our band Phase 5 so much and everyone was shouting "Encore!" when they had to end at 10:30 p.m. Nobody wanted the night to end! So maybe I would have booked the band and the reception for an extra hour just so that we could party and dance for a little bit longer. Another thing I would change is that I would probably have communicated better to my family about taking the family photos after the ceremony, because we had some communication issues, and some people ran into cocktail hour, and it was more difficult to wrangle them for the family photos than I expected!”

– Annemarie Clarke and Justin Raffunello

“We honestly would not change a single thing! The entire evening went so smoothly. We still can't get over how great it was.”

– Callahan Chapman and Jacob Gralton

“I wish it was longer! It was just perfect. Great food and service, wonderful time with family and friends, it just went by way too fast.”

– Caitlin Starr and Ryan Miles

“I would have extended the timeframe another hour. We were having so much fun dancing with everyone we couldn’t believe it was over so quickly.”

– Nerissa Vasconcells and Keith Bixler

“If I could change anything about our day, it would be to actually get to eat the food! LOL! We were so busy and so focused on our friends and family, we really didn’t take the time to eat.”

– Jacqueline Carrillo and Tarek Saade

“If we had to change anything, it would probably have been the amount of time. It seriously flew by so fast, and I think another hour would have really been nice. Other than that, I think our day was wonderful and I can’t think of much else that I would want to be different!”

– Alyson Knaresboro and Phil Enright

“Honestly, we wouldn’t change anything except maybe should have added an extra hour! The whole day felt like it was moving so slow and then when it was time to start the ceremony, everything was kicked into high gear! It’s true when people say the day is over before you know it.”

– Alex Mulligan and Alberto Chevalier

“The only thing that really stood out to us was that our DJ didn’t announce our cake cutting or play our cake cutting song. No one really knew we were cutting the cake until it was done so the entire thing felt rushed.”

– Jennifer and Nate Mohr
