ONE YEAR OUT:

How/where did you get engaged? 
We got engaged at the Mount Dora Lighthouse trail. My fiancé, Nerissa, and I have walked along this trail many times, looking for wildlife and watching the sunset. The plan was to meet my sister for dinner after the trail, but instead I had my sister and brother-in-law waiting at a part of the trail to take photos of us as I asked the question. Nerissa was so surprised, and this trail will always be a special place for us!

What are you most excited about for your wedding day?
For the wedding day, we are most excited about getting our families together and having a wonderful time! Getting married outside was always something we both wanted to do, and the beautiful tree outside of The Highland Manor is the perfect setting for us!

What aspect are you excited to plan the most? (Ceremony, food & beverages, photographer, DJ)
We are most excited to plan our reception and see all of the pieces come together. We both love planning and have been having an amazing time with the whole process and doing this together!

A FEW MONTHS OUT / PLANNING PROCESS

How do you feel the planning is going?
Planning has been going well. We found most of our vendors through the help of The Highland Manor team and the Open House sessions hosted by Dubsdread Catering at their venues. We have been working closely with each vendor to make sure our day is as amazing as we hope!

What have you found to be more difficult than you expected?
The guest list has been a little tricky. We originally had a running list of everyone we wanted to invite but have added to our list a bunch! Trying to stay at our specific number has been hard.

What has been more fun about the process than you expected?
The Open Houses Dubsdread Catering hosts at The Highland Manor have been fun as they have allowed us to bring people with us to show them how beautiful the venue is. Our food tasting was also amazing and helped us choose the food we really wanted.

WEDDING DAY

What was the best, most memorable part of your big day?
Our first look. All of the preparation and organizing got stressful during the last few days before the wedding so this gave us time together that we wouldn’t have had on our day. We were on the fence about doing a first look, but it really helped us feel more relaxed to be with each other and see each other’s reactions privately. It was such an emotional day and that allowed us to really take time together for ourselves. It also helped us take more pictures before the ceremony, so we had more daylight and didn’t have to rush pictures. 

If you could change one or two things about your event, what would they be?
I would have extended the timeframe another hour. We were having so much fun dancing with everyone we couldn’t believe it was over so quickly. 

Is there any advice you would give other couples planning their event that you wish someone had told you?
Enjoy every single moment. Even if something seems like a small task, it is meaningful for your special day. You only get married once so remember to cherish everything!
