Spotlight on Sweet City Gelato

At Dubsdread Catering we are proud to become dedicated members of your event team and are happy to share our knowledge and experience about planning for your big event, including finding the right vendor partners for your unique needs. Monika Tyler of Sweet City Gelato is one of our partners dedicated to making your event as sweet as can be by offering a variety of handcrafted, small-batch gelato, sorbetto and specialty desserts for your guests.

Here she shares her experience and most frequently asked questions:

  1. How long have you been in the industry?
We started our dessert company in 2012 and served gelato from our vintage gelato cart at our first wedding in the summer of 2014. For more than six years now, we’ve had an amazing time serving hundreds of awesome guests at so many beautiful weddings.
  2. How many wedding desserts do you do annually? (can be approx. of course)
We offer three unique catering options: our vintage gelato cart, our gelato truck, and our tabletop cabinet service and all three options offer unlimited servings for the duration of service. Our only limitation is that we only book these options for one day at a time, one because they can’t be in two places at once, and two to assure our clients the best experience and the amount of time and service they need for their special event. This also means, that we limit our weddings bookings for each of these options to about 25 per year, but we feel it allows us to provide superior service.
  3. How many other events do you prepare for per month? (social, corporate, community, etc.)
We book approximately 200 events per year including the weddings we just discussed, plus corporate events such as employee and client appreciations and annual holiday parties, and then there are many private celebration events such as anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, bar and bat mitzvahs, sweet 16 parties, etc. We also do many public events throughout the year, including art festivals, charity events, music and wine festivals, grand openings, and sporting events.
  4. What is your favorite part of the event planning process?
Without a doubt the most fun part of the planning process is the tasting appointment when the couple, and anyone else they’d like to have come along, is invited to our production kitchen to try out as many gelato and sorbetto flavors available at that time, often it is up to 20 flavors. It gives us a chance to spend a little fun time with our clients and get to the know them, and they always seem to have a great time!
  5. What kind of packages do you offer?
We offer three different catering options: our vintage gelato cart, our gelato truck, and our tabletop cabinet service with indoor and outdoor services available. We offer unlimited servings for guests with tiered pricing based on the number of guests. With over 50 flavors of scratch-made gelato and sorbetto, with many gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options, there’s a big variety to suit every taste.
  6. How far in advance do you recommend couples book your services?
We recommend booking with us as early as possible because we do limit our bookings. However, we do understand that some couples think about dessert options later in their planning, so check our availability as we sometimes have last minute openings.
  7. What is something during the day of the event that your clients may not even be aware of that should be considered?
I always try to remind the bride and groom to be sure to enjoy the gelato at the reception because the day goes by so fast and sometimes, they don’t get a chance to partake. Of course, if it’s possible we will pack them a pint to take with them on the way to their hotel or other destination to enjoy!
  8. What sets you apart from other dessert companies?
The one thing that we hear from our clients over and over is that their guests still talk about how much they enjoyed the experience of having the gelato served from our cart or truck at the reception. It’s such a wonderful feeling to have our clients tell us that our gelato was one of the best parts of their night!
