An Interview with Vendor Partner Steven Miller Photography – Photographer

At Dubsdread Catering we are proud to become dedicated members of your event team and are happy to share our knowledge and experience about planning for your big event, including finding the right vendor partners for your unique needs. Steven Miller Photography is an Orlando-based photography team with a wide scope of services including weddings, engagement sessions, corporate and sporting events, professional head shots, family sessions, and modeling. Led by owner/photography Steven Miller, it’s a true team effort with additional photographers, editors, and album designers working together to offer highly personalized service as well as competitive pricing.

Here Steven shares his experience and answers to some frequently asked questions:

  • How long have you been in the industry?
It’s honestly hard to believe sometimes, but we've been in business for more than nine years now and we have photographed more than 200 weddings over the course of our career in addition to family sessions, head shots, maternity sessions, and engagements that we also shoot.
  • How many weddings do you do annually?
We capture anywhere between 20 to 40 weddings each year.
  • What is your favorite part of the wedding day?
Our favorite part of the wedding day is honestly the family portraits! We LOVE managing the chaos, and that's typically when there's most of it! We work hard with the couple to keep their portraits time organized, flowing smoothly, and not missing any people that may try to skip over to cocktail hour by accident.
  • How would you describe your style?
I describe our style as natural in every step of the process. The way we photograph is to utilize as much natural light as we can, including the extreme of starlight in some of our sessions. When we do use our own flashes, we try to keep the light as soft and flattering as possible, especially in ballrooms or outdoor receptions, where lighting can be challenging. We also keep our editing style natural, keeping colors natural and accurate as we want our images to truly look timeless, not temporarily trendy.
  • What kind of packages do you offer?
We offer several varieties of packages. They range from very simple, “Here are your images, enjoy!”, to packages that include a lot of photo goodies, like wedding albums, prints, canvases, etc. We try to provide couples with options for what they actually need or want, not what we hope they buy.
  • How far in advance do you recommend couples book a photographer?
We recommend couples book their photographers as early as one year in advance, but only if they're ready and comfortable to make such a big decision. The earlier they can book their vendors, the more likely they'll be able to select from the ones they like the most.
  • What advice do you give to couples when choosing a photographer?
Put A LOT of stock into the photography category. Photographers will be spending more time with you than any other wedding vendor, even the planners. It's very important to pick a photographer that you get along with. We don't need to be besties forever by any means, but at least friendly and comfortable spending time together. You want someone who will help relieve anxiety, not add to it, so pick someone you'd enjoy being around all day. Oh, and of course pick a photographer who's style you love and trust.
  • What is a pet peeve of yours during a wedding? (something the couple may not be aware of)
We like to think that we give all of our couples a perfect idea of what to expect when they book with us, so this question is hard to answer. Some of the pet peeves we commonly experience on wedding days include the word 'photoshop', we don't do that LOL! One challenge we often face on wedding days is keeping everyone on track and focused on what photo-moment is next. We're always reminding bridesmaids and groomsmen that they need to start getting dressed or not to worry about that last-minute trip to Walgreens for more beer!
  • What sets you apart from other photographers?
We consider ourselves Photographers with Purpose. In addition to providing comfortable and professional personalities and photography to our wedding couples, we also try to make a positive impact to our fragile planet. We do this by offering free native trees or pollinator plants to all of our couples and clients, and we also offer once-in-a-lifetime Starry Night sessions as well. We share our passion for dark skies and a natural planet by taking couples to official dark sky locations and showing them the Milky Way for the first time, sharing ancient stories of constellations, and capturing night-time portraits of them with the beautiful cosmos overhead. We've often brought couples to tears when sharing this experience with them, and we hope to raise awareness about light pollution to as many humans as we can, our nocturnal wildlife depends on it.
