An Interview with PB and J Studios

PB and J Studios is an award-winning wedding photography and video team that has been serving Central Florida and surrounding areas for more than eight years. Owner Patrick Buckley and partner Jonathan Rodriguez work as a team to capture festivities, carefully preserving each fleeting moment of beauty and joy. The team also specializes in corporate events, headshots, and family sessions.

Here Patrick shares his experience and answers to some frequently asked questions: 

How long have you been in the industry?

I started my professional photography career in 2012 and shot my first wedding in 2013. By 2016, photography became my full-time profession. In 2019, we began developing a team that is now a wonderful collective group of artists known as PB and J Studios.

How many weddings do you do annually? (Can be approx. of course)

Pre-pandemic we averaged between 40-50 weddings per year. Today, we have continued to grow our amazing team and now are averaging about 70 weddings a year, plus our team books a lot of corporate events and portraiture sittings.

What is your favorite part of the wedding day?

Seeing couples celebrate with their family and friends is honestly our favorite part of the day. Following closely behind that, is getting to know our clients, and learning more about their love story. We want to translate their personal story into their photos.

How would you describe your style?

Our style on a wedding day is fun and all about capturing real, honest moments. As much as we lean into sun flares and bright, true to life photos, we love capturing images that tell a story and highlight a couple’s connection.

What kind of packages do you offer?

We are a full-service photography and video company. From an intimate backyard wedding to a more than 10-hour multi-location wedding, we have photo and video packages to meet everyone’s needs. In addition to photography and video services, we also offer photobooths and live-streaming service.

How far in advance do you recommend couples book photography/video services?

We recommend at least a year out and we will book two to three years out as well so that the couple can check it off their list and have one less thing to worry about.

What advice do you give to couples when choosing a photographer?

Something we always tell couples at wedding shows or when they are reaching out to us online is to talk with your photographer and take time to get to know them. You are going to be spending a lot of time with your photographer the day of your wedding so if you are not comfortable or you don’t vibe with them, it’s going to show in your photos. You want a trusting, solid connection.

What is a pet peeve of yours during a wedding? (Something the couple may not be aware of)

While we understand couples wanting everyone to have a wonderful time at their wedding, it can be difficult to watch them not be able to relax and enjoy their day because some couples get so wrapped in pleasing everyone else. This is also why it is so important to have a solid venue staff and coordinator that will manage what needs to be done without the couple having to run the show.

What sets you apart from other photographers?

What sets us apart is our commitment to ensuring that our couples have the most fun, incredible day of their lives. We do this by being calm, cool, and collected on what otherwise could be a very stressful day. We joke that we absorb other peoples’ stress. Also, we take pride in the fact that we have a very creative, like-minded team of photographers and videographers, which allows us to be in multiple places at the same time on your wedding day.
