Pro Tip Q&A: What are Wedding Registry “Must Haves”?

August 23, 2023

When event planning is underway, our Dubsdread Catering Event Team gets asked for their professional opinions on everything from wedding traditions to flowers, to food. One of the questions our team gets asked about often is about wedding registries. Above all, they are often asked what they recommend as “must-haves”. So, we thought we’d ask our team to share their thoughts here for your consideration.

Peighton Ballant: I’ve always heard that good kitchenware is a must, whether it be knives, cookware, bakeware, espresso maker, etc. I also think it’s a good idea to add on some things that you’ve been wanting to upgrade, but don’t want to spend the money on, such as new sheets, comforters, towels, or wash cloths.

Christiana Bullard: It’s a good opportunity to replace existing towels with sets of matching hand, face, and body towels that can be used in every bathroom in your home. Nice every day dishware sets such as mugs, bowls, glasses, and plates are good options, plus people can buy a place setting or a set based on their budget. I would also suggest a set of nice ceramic and non-stick pots and pans, plus a variety of mixing bowls in various sizes, and for me, it would be imperative that everything is dishwasher safe too.

Shanna Paris: Over the years there are a few wedding gifts I’ve seen that have really stood the test of time. One is a customized cheese board or cutting board. As a someone who enjoys hosting people, it is a meaningful and functional gift. Some other kitchen must haves include an air fryer, blender, steak knife set, waffle maker, and electric kettle. Recently, I have really liked the idea of Airbnb gift cards, which can be handy for your honeymoon!

Michelle Edmiston: I would say personalized items are my favorite and they are always so special. You want to make sure you have a variety of items with ranging price points, so your guests have a bit to choose from. Have some higher priced items like great set of pots and pans, a fire pit, or Roomba etc. However still have things like a mixer, flatware, dishes, or other things that can be purchased in small or large combinations.

David Osmola: I always thought a nice set of fine china was a lovely gift, but today, that idea is old-fashioned and often impractical, so I would opt for dishware you can use every day.

Carissa Llewellyn-Burns: I would definitely say new silverware and any kitchen item. Maybe a mixer or new towels! Make sure to actually pick out the ones you want for your registry, so your guests don’t have to guess and then you have to make all sorts of returns after your wedding because you don’t like what they picked. Add everything to your registry, big and small! That way if you get it great! If you don’t, you can use gift cards or something to get the items you really wanted.

Kristen Berry: I definitely think you should include items you might not buy for yourself, and at all price points. Home décor, linens, items to stock a bar cart. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so I immediately think of things like a dutch oven, cast iron pans, or a nice knife set.

So, there you have it! Most of our team’s opinion is that good, basic household items are the most important items to include on your wedding registry.
